Buddha's birthday is celebrated here with a week of festivities. Last week I went to the Lotus Lantern Festival in downtown Seoul, where Buddhists, tourists, and other festival goers gathered to watch the two-hour parade of lanterns.
Wow, I guess they do the parade in much more grand scale. Actually I never saw this parade in Korea during my 26 years of growing up there. I visited many temples as part of picnic or hiking and always fascinated by Buddha statues and paintings, but never had any religious inclination to it. Now being a Christian, it is more so than before. Anyway the pictures look great. Too bad Michael couldn't go with you. Maybe next year. Ah-ooh.
